Samsung Galaxy S5 vs iPhone 5S: The Roaring Beasts

0

Now, after the official announcement, we know the truth about the Samsung Galaxy S5 – the new flagship of the Korean manufacturer. And if so, then it is time to compare it with the main competitor – iPhone 5S.

Apple iPhone 6 will hit the market after 4 to 5 months and Galaxy S5 would be out in the market on April 11. And no doubt after the release of iPhone 6, there would be lesser space in the market for Galaxy S5. Let’s find out where iPhone 5S is lacking behind to Galaxy S5.

Housing dimensions and design

Samsung Galaxy S5

In this regard, Samsung Galaxy S5 is little different from its predecessor. The most significant innovation – Galaxy S5 is a smartphone with IP67 protection against dust and water. Samsung Galaxy S5 weighs 145 grams and has a thickness of 8.1 mm – that is, it became slightly heavier and thicker than Galaxy S4 (which weighed 130 g and was 7.9 mm thick). Galaxy smartphones are always bigger in size and heavier than the iPhone – after all, they have a bigger screen. Galaxy – large machines that attract the eye, have a large screen size, but may not be quite convenient to use and wear. It is just a matter of taste.

iPhone 5S and iPhone 5 has a similar size, shape, design and weight. It is a slim, ergonomic smartphone: such that you can easily operate with one hand. IPhone 5S weight is 112 g, and its thickness – 7.6 mm.

It is expected that the Galaxy S5 will be more reliable than the iPhone 5s – thanks to water and dust resistance. As expected, Samsung has released several distinguishing color options in Galaxy S5, but they are all made of plastic – although there were rumors that there will be a metal version, similar to the iPhone. The smartphone is available in the following colors: blue, black, white and “copper-gold.” Rear covers are perforated.

Fingerprint scanner and other sensors

As in the iPhone 5S, in Galaxy S5 now has a fingerprint scanner. Samsung says that it will provide a secure biometric lock screen function. Also with this scanner, you can restrict access to the files on the device.

Galaxy S5 has heart rate sensor that measures your heart rate when you put your finger on it. But iPhone 5S has nothing like that, but there is a question that it has great practical benefit of such a function?

WiFi and 4G

Galaxy S5 supports networks of LTE and Wi-Fi MIMO (802.11ac), which, according to Samsung, make it unique. Galaxy S5 is also equipped with an accelerator and downloads technology that increases the speed of data transfer by simultaneous connection via Wi-Fi and LTE.

iPhone 5S

iPhone 5S offers work in 802.11n Wi-Fi, and full support for 4G. It seems that here formally wins the Galaxy, although it is obvious that 802.11ac is useful only if you have the appropriate router and 4G-network is not available everywhere.

Display

Early rumors of Galaxy S5 were suggesting screen size of 5.2 inches, with a resolution of 2560 × 1440. But in fact, the display has a size of 5.1 inches and a resolution of 1920 x 1080. This means that the new flagship of Samsung has even somewhat smaller density of pixels (430 ppi), as compared to 441 ppi have Samsung Galaxy S4.

Apple iPhone 5Sis equipped with a screen size of 4 inches. And it has resolution of 640 x 1136 pixels, with a density of 326 ppi. But when it is compared to larger FullHD-displays, it already seems outdated.

Battery Capacity

Samsung says that the Galaxy S5 battery provides 390 hours of standby time and 21 hours of talk time. Battery of iPhone 5S provides talk time up to 10 hours (in networks 3G), and up to 250 hours of standby time. Of course, the battery Galaxy S5 still needs to test.

Samsung Galaxy S5 has a special mode Ultra Power Saving Mode, which switches the display into monochrome mode and disables many features to reduce battery consumption. Samsung says that this mode provides an additional 24 hours of battery life.

Processor and Performance

We know that the Galaxy S5 is equipped with a 2.5 GHz quad-core processor.Contrary to rumors, it is not x64-processor.

We also expected the impressive memory to 3 GB, but, according to the specification Samsung, RAM capacity is 2 GB. Apple iPhone 5S has a 64-bit processor A7, clocked at 1.3 GHz. This dual-core processor paired with 1 GB of RAM DDR3. The iPhone has never had any problems with performance, but Apple claims that this processor is twice as fast as the previous model, both in terms of CPU, and with respect to graphics performance.

Impeccable work of 64-bit iOS 7 is definitely the main merit of this chip. You will not notice any freezes or lags when moving between different screens, or when the application exits. Programs run, and web pages load faster than ever: work with iPhone 5S–is a pleasure.

A7 also has also coprocessor M7 that handles number of background functions, and seriously affects the performance of the gadget.

Built-in Memory

Apple iPhone 5S is available in versions with built-in storage capacity of 16, 32 and 64 gigabytes, and has no memory card slot.

Galaxy S5 offers a model with memory in 32 and 64 GB, and with the help of microSD-card memory could be increased can add up to 64 GB. So that in this respects Galaxy S5 wins.

Software

Choosing between Android and iOS is still the subject of fierce debate.iOS now comes with a very handy feature quick setup – called “Control Center”. There are other important changes in comparison with older versions, or example – blocking access to the center of notifications.

Apple has also a strong point in the form of App Store, but iOS is clearly inferior to a competitor in the configuration options, which is one of the main advantages of Android.

Galaxy S5 is running Android 4.4 KitKat. This is the most thought out and easy to use mobile operating system from Google, even if equipped with TouchWiz interface from Samsung. The amazing thing is that this time Samsung did not overload the phone too much of their proprietary features. Perhaps because of the agreement between Samsung and Google, but also Galaxy S4 has been criticized for duplication of functions in applications and settings.

Camera

Naturally, we have not tested the camera of Galaxy S5, and we have a confirmation that the main camera has a resolution of 16 MP, autofocus 0.3 seconds (called (“fastest Samsung autofocus”), and LED flash.

Other innovations include advanced extended dynamic range (HDR). It is meaningful that you do not have to keep the camera still for a long time until it makes a few shots and combines them into one.

There is also a selection of the focus mode, which allows users to focus on a specific area of an object while blurring the background to create the effect of depth.Galaxy S5 also offers an improved interface that makes it easy to capture, edit and share your photos.

The front camera will have a resolution of 3.2 megapixels. You can shoot video in 1080p at 60 frames per second. In iPhone 5SApple has also installed two cameras: a front for applications such as FaceTime and Skype, and the main rear camera, called iSight. Below are their characteristics.

iSight has a matrix in a modest 8 megapixels with 1.5? (technology UltraPixel, allowing to do better pictures in low light conditions). Aperture size ƒ/2.2, and the flash True Tone have two LED elements, one of which is yellow. The front camera can take pictures with a resolution of 1.2 megapixels, and record video in 720p HD.

It is important that iPhone 5S longer uses a large-scale mode in low light conditions (as it was the iPhone 5), so photos taken in the dark, get a much clearer.

Availability

iPhone 5Sis for sale right now but Galaxy S5 will go on sale from April 11, but the price for it has not yet been announced.

Our verdict

If you are a user of the iPhone and completely happy with iOS 7, it is unlikely that any function Galaxy S5 will convince you to go to the camp of Android. Galaxy S5 has large and bright screen, good camera, various connection settings and large memory capacity. But all of the above is quite true of the iPhone 5S.

No doubt that there were days when Apple was far ahead of other smartphone manufacturers in the past, but the iPhone is still on top. Also, with the launch of iPhone 6, Apple will bring revolution to the market. However, within three to five months we would see other smartphones in the market too, that might reduce the sales of Galaxy S5 and few of these smartphone names include iPhone 6, LG G3, Xperia Z3 and later when Nexus 6 will come to the market then again there would be a revolution. No doubt, later this year more beast would come to the market and all smartphone fans are going to enjoy the best future technologies.
