LG Apex (U.S. Cellular) Review

0

The LG Apex is a good smartphone with an excellent keyboard and an economical price. However, the battery and the processing speed of this smartphone are disappointing factors. The LG Apex can be bought at an original price of $79.99 but nowadays it is available at a price of $49.00 after an $80 mail-in discount.

Design

The LG Apex is a solid smartphone with a height of 4.57 inches, width of 2.2 inches, thickness of 0.62 inches and a weight of 5.39 ounces. It is not as broad as other such sets and this makes it easy to hold in the hand and easy to slip in the pant pockets. You will see that the phone has a solid construction and a nice soft finishing on the back.

The LG Apex has a small display with 3.2 inches of capacitive touch screen, a resolution of 800×480 pixels and a support for 242,000 colors and this makes Apex LG’s screen a brittle and vibrant screen not leaving one in dismay of having a small screen. You will also find the pinch-to-zoom and built-in accelerometer in this smartphone.

The LG Apex has a responsive touch screen which easily launches applications and menus on tapping the icons but it does not perform really well on waving and scrolling. The LG Apex has a standard Android keyboard for text entry and one can also download Swype if they wish to but the need won’t arise as the LG Apex has a physical keyboard.

The keyboard of the phone has a D-pad on the right side which allows to grip and type comfortably. The keys of the keyboard are surfaced with appropriate spaces between them and this prevents any mispresses. The number keys, the Home key, the Menu key and the Search shortcut keys are also a great help.

Underneath the display of the screen, the Home, Back, Search and physical Talk and End/Power buttons are situated. On left side of the back are a volume rocker and a Micro USB port, on the right side are the micro SD expansion slot and camera button. Above the phone is a 3.55 mm headphone jack and on the back side is the camera and flash. Also in the package of LG Apex, there comes an AC adapter, a USB cable, a wired stereo headset, a 4 GB micro SD card and reference material.

Features

There are a number of features offered by the LG Apex including Google services, YouTube, ThinkFree Office Suite, My Contacts Backup, Tone Room Deluxe and Your Navigator. Other than that, the smartphone contains the basic phone features such as speed dialing, speakerphone, conference calling, voice commands, multimedia and text messaging, Bluetooth, integrates Wi-Fi, 3G, GPS, Gmail, IMAP, POP3, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and Microsoft Exchange.

Performance

The LG Apex has a 1,500 mAh lithium ion battery and it gives a talk time of 7.5 hours and a stand by time of 14 days. The battery life hasn’t shown to be very good as it drained quiet fast.
