Nike+GPS Application Review

A 2011 Health and Sports iPhone application, joined into one, is what the Nike+GPS app is. This application utilizes GPS tracking while you run. It can track the distance covered along with the route and other running data. Note that the Nike+GPS application is for those who do not have the Nike+ shoes which have sensors.

The Nike+GPS is an easy to use and control application. To start using it, one can choose from the options of a basic run, a timed run, and a distance run. A basic run, there is no distance or time set. While in a timed run, you’re running with the clock. As for a distance run, a certain mileage is set. There is also a Challenge Me feature for runners who wants to further push themselves.

Nike+GPS application is filled with wonderful features which throws away features that are not necessary. There are three major good points which the Nike+GPS app basks on. First, it is cheaper compared to other running apps. It doesn’t require the user to purchase a separate much more costly Nike+iPod Sports Kit, all that’s needed is a hardware device like the accelerometer and GPS. Second, you can control iPod from the display. Meaning, you can play a music or power songs program by incorporating it with you iPod as you run. Third, it has many functional features. Nike+GPS allow you to calibrate your run, to adjust automatically certain workout data according to the usual route and actual distance of your run. It also has a customizable voice alert feature and history tab list you can update in your Facebook and Twitter sites.

The Nike+GPS application, however, is yet to match up with the currently more preferred Runmeter application. One bad point of the Nike+GPS app which can still be improved is that one has to actually stop working out in order to pause or stop the music you have activated. Another bad point is that there are still more running data that can be displayed on the page yet are not there. Though it the run detail page is easily viewable and displays the mileage and time, it would be better if can have additional data like calories burned, and have the time and minutes per mile in larger fonts. In the current version, the data with the largest number is mileage and underneath it with smaller fonts are the time and minutes per mile. The start up button is also too large, occupying a big space on the screen which can be used to display other important running and exercise data.

On a further note, being reliant on GPS coverage and reception, Nike+GPS won’t always work well. It depends on your location despite the fact that it was designed to work on both indoor and outdoor settings. This is something which can the user find a solution to themselves.

Nike+GPS application is one of the top health apps available now. It can also improve your sports ability in terms of running. It is an application worthy to be given a review of “Good, almost great.”
