MSI X420 Review

The X420 is a lightweight machine that packs more artillary than you would otherwise expect. But its multimendia portfolio is not top -notch, just as it is not a gaming delight. It comes with a full keyboard and a robust high -definition video experience.

The machine is powered by a dual core SU7300 intel processor that speeds at 1300 MHz. It comes with a pre -installed 4 GB DDR3 memory with a speed of 1066 MHz. It comes ensuite one 550GB hard drive with a speed of 5400 RPM, and the storage armoury is further beefed up by a memory stick, a multimedia card, an SDHC card and an XD -picture card. The network connections are provided by the 10/100/1000 mps ethernet and 802.11n/b/g. The X420 comes with a switchable 4500MHD integrated graphics chipset and an external 3D HD5430 display adapter from ATI Mobility Radeon. The machine also comes with an embedded 1.3 megapixel webcam, bluetooth and headphones.

It is supported by Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition and includes a healthy catalogue of softwares including; ArcSoft, EasyFace Logon, WinRAR, S-Bar Utilities, Magic-i Visual Effect 2, BurnRecovery and Webcam Companion 3, pretty more than you need. The machine weighs a portable 4 pounds 5 ounces, and it tops 5.3 pounds when fully ensuite with accessories. The covers a width of 13.8 inches, a depth of 9.3 inches and a height of 1.5 inches.

You will get a full keyboard complete with springy and attractive keys that offer a bad feedback. The keys may also prove to be a challenge in typing, but it is not a serious setback. Its trackpad is texured and quite responsive and easy to use. It also has the advantage of being big and having a nice outlook. The trackpad also comes with two large buttons just below it. Its ability to aid multitouch gestures and two -finger scrolling also play to its a advantage. The 14 incher offers a maximum 1366 by 768 pixel resolution LCD that treats you to crisp and seamless imaging, abeit with minor washing out in color. Its viewing angles are superb, especially considering its a glossy LCD. Its good for two people side by side, but more than that is taking it too far.As part of the package you will get Microsoft Office Home and Student trialware on top of the Norton Antivirus.

The video playback on the machine is pretty solid, the 720p video looks nice and clear with briliant colors and does not stutter. Its audio is top -notch, while the speakers are loud and clear.

The MSI x420 is more suited for normal tasks and casual gaming. Its also great for toying around with. But if you are looking for a machine that fires on all the cylinders, you should look elsewhere.
