HP Veer 4G

HP Veer 4G

Known as the HP Veer or HP Veer 4G, this device is known for its small, compact shape. It strikes a mild resemblance to the palm pilots from the late 1990’s.  Don’t let its size fool you; just because it is smaller than most smart phones, does not mean that it is not capable of doing the exact same thing in more.

This device is completely black except for the letters on the QWERTY keyboard as well as the HG symbol located on the back of the device. The phone also comes in white. It is 3.31 inches in height when closed, 2.15 inches in width and 0.59 inches thick. Weighing 103 grams, this phone is 14 grams lighter than the average phone. The phone slides out in to a full 4 – row QWERTY keyboard and those are some of the very few buttons that are on the device. Unlike some device’s the QWERTY keyboard is the only keyboard, however most would not complain because virtual keyboards can be difficult to use.

On the front of the phone there is only the touch screen. Very rare to find a device without at least capacitive buttons on the front, so this phone is unique in having no buttons at all except for those on the touch screen. On the right side of the device there is a volume toggle switch.  On the top of the phone is a mute button. On the top right corner there is on the top right corner. The port to charge the phone is at the bottom of the device.

The front display screen is a 2.6 inch LCD display. This screen has a resolution of 320 x 400 pixels, which is common among smart phones. It is a capacitive touch screen with multi-touch capabilities. This just means that the phone will register most buttons you hit. This is important for those who have quick fingers when it comes to their mobile device. The phone also has a light sensor and proximity sensor, both of which enhance your battery’s life. The proximity sensor will turn off the screen when the phone is not in use, and the light sensor will adjust the brightness based on the light in the environment.

The phone comes equipped with WebOS 2.0 which obviously is not the most common operating system today. However, WebOS is known for its amazing multitasking abilities. Considering the phone looks like a palm pilot, a device that a busy person who multi-tasks would use, makes it understandable why HP chose that operating system. The device is run by an 800 MHz single core Qualcomm MSM7230 processor.

The phone actually has a good quality camera. It is a 5 megapixel camera which are common among smart phones. Even though the device does not have a flash, it is known to take vibrant and detailed photos. The phone also has a geo-tagging feature.

The HP Veer is equipped with a 901 mAH battery, which is pretty good quality for what the phone can do. Tests have shown that the Veern can withstand 5 hours of talk time and 300 hours of stand-by time.
