If you’ve been waiting for an affordable Windows Smartphone, your wait is over. The Nokia Lumia 900 delivers all the features you’ve been anticipating, and a whole lot more. Better still, it can be had for free with many 24-month contracts, or purchased SIM-free for approximately £400.
Nokia Lumia 900 – The Basics
This is not a small phone, but it’s not a chunky, pocket-ripping monster either. The Nokia Lumia 900 is a pleasantly sleek 127.8 x 68.5 x 11.5mm in size, giving it a nice substantial feel in your hand without looking like an ultra-durable phone designed for construction workers or circus performers. Although it weighs a bit more than some of its close competitors at 160g, we found that this gives it a feeling of quality, not excess.
If you’re obsessive about specs, the Nokia Lumia 900 may disappoint you. It features a single core Qualcomm processor and just 512MB of SDRAM. Despite these seemingly disappointing numbers, however, this handset didn’t show even the smallest bit of lag when in use. Don’t be blinded by the specs – somehow this phone makes everything happen seamlessly despite the lack of hardware.
In terms of appearance, this is one sexy phone. We have to mention the available blue color – somewhere between aqua and robin’s egg blue, it’s eye-catching and adorable, a nice change from the usual black and white.
On the screen, you’ll find everything you need right at your fingertips. The only downside we could find was the inexplicable lack of connection – this requires a few taps. The only permanently displayed factor is the time; nice, but we’d like to see our connection all the time as well. Nevertheless, it’s hardly enough to detract from this sleek little handset.
This Windows Smartphone has everything you’d expect, including an extremely high degree of user-friendliness. Apps can be arranged and removed from the screen with a simple tap and swipe. Once you’ve accumulated over forty apps, the phone automatically organizes them for you in alphabetical order – something we’ve found extremely handy.
All the goodies you’re drooling over are there. The AMOLED screen is a bright and vivid 4.3 inches of ClearBlack glass, which allows you to see with total clarity in bright sunlight, dim light and even while wearing sunglasses. The screen is also protected with Gorilla Glass for extra durability. Shutterbugs will adore the 8mp Carl Zeiss camera with a dual-LED flash and auto-focus, plus the 1mp rear phone for crystal-clear video chatting.
Perhaps best of all, the Nokia Lumia 900 is the best Windows Phone has to offer, with lightning-fast speeds, IE9 and full HTML5 support.
Nokia Lumia 900 – Do You Want It?
If you’ve been itching to get your hands on a Windows phone, we say go ahead and pounce on it. At a reasonable price and all wrapped up in a pretty package, this is one purchase we seriously doubt you’ll regret.
