Of course, it is worth mentioning that, like there are bad clients, there are even worse freelancers in the market. From the scammer, to the “i won’t do it today”guy that delays job from day to day, there’s no bottom in the sea of bad freelancers. We’ll enlist the bad ones so you know when to refuse a freelancer that might turn out to be bad for what you want.

1 – Jack of all trades, Expert in None Freelancer

I myself know some in all the areas of computing, a little bit of each, but i have ones that i really am an expert in , and i never ever keep from a client what i am not that experienced in. Give you an example right away:

I am very good in:

Web Development (SEO, PHP, MySQL, HTML5, JavaScript, Ajax, HTML5, Twitter Bootstrap)

Database Administration (only MySQL and Sqlite)

Article writing (Tech-related areas and Informative)

Linux Server Administration

I am average in:

Web Design (anything except CSS3 animations)

Content Management, Layout Design

UX Design

Online Marketing (i don’t like people that much)

C and C++ Programming

When you hear a freelancer, that he is an expert in all areas, this is a bad sign (he might actually be average, or very bad in all of them). If you have some easy jobs to do in different areas, sure, you can hire this guy, but if you need, say an expert in Ruby on Rails, and his portofolio shows a majority of, say, Backbone.JS, you can’t take his word 100% that he can finish the job without problems related either to security or application bugs. Especially if it’s a hourly job you don’t want to pay the hours he is documenting himself on a subject that you already agreed he is an expert in. There are many more out there that can work at the same or even lower price with much better quality work.

2 - The Let’s do it tomorrow Freelancer

You know that guy. “Hey man, i’m really tired today, let’s move X to (insert date that is not today here)” The problem with this guy is, he is too lazy, and unmotivated to get the job, or has other clients that are down his priority list. Ditch this guy because he’ll create you problems in the long run. Most of the times, he won’t provide finalized work on time.

3 – The 50 cent a hour Freelancer

This guy is the cheapest bid that you can find out there. The problem is, he is neither skilled, and if he is skilled, he will probably provide bad work anyways. You can’t expect to hire someone that bids as low as 2$ to come up with awesomely designed, secure, and non-buggy well-tested websites or web applications. Simply look for another contractor that will provide much better work for 5-10 dollars more than the low-wage freelancers price. Most of these cheap ones come from third world countries, such as Kenya, India, or any other developing country.

4 – The Flat Out Scammer

These are the sketchy dealers of the Internet. They promise a lot but either bail out at 10% of the project, provide some superficial results (such as a few HTML pages with no functionality, or an article with 200 original words and garbage at rest), or plain simple do no work. One of the first signs to watch out are:

Asks for upfront payment with no references (such as testimonials, or a portofolio)

No reference or 2-3 to his past work with bad reviews

Almost all of the reviews are hidden

Clients always leaving few stars

Here we suggest you to trust your gut and simply don’t leave place for these kinds of freelancers.

Like it’s not enough that freelancing is hard, where you have to market, structure, make economic plans, find clients, and stay up to date with latest tools, but you have to deal with clients without knowing from first.I assume you already know that politeness and courtesy don’t make up for a distinct lack of communication, decisiveness, or simple lack of interest by the clients part. Today, i will present you a top 4 of the worst kinds of clients that exist in the freelancing world. Learn a lesson from my mistakes and fire these kinds of clients when you smell them ahead. I encourage you to write your bad experiences with the clients below in the comments section.

Let’s get to know the worst types of clients.

1 – The Business Opportunity Client

I found this one on oDesk, while looking for Web Development jobs. I applied to one job for a client that wanted a website, with a wizard, just like in Desktop Applications, to create websites. The user would enter the name he wanted, the hosting plan, select a template, choose a payment option, and create a website for his own. The client wanted to re-sell templates from big websites, passing them on as Premium Templates. As the websites we’ve chosen agreed, even encouraged reselling these templates, i thought it would be cool.

So i invited him to choose a payment option, and then he says: “You’ll be given the first 1500$ that we gain from the website.”, i suggested that i wasn’t interested, but i would like to be paid for my work via milestones. He started calling me names, and told me that i had no idea how a business works. I told him that i understand the opportunity but i’m not interested in insecure returns.

What do you think his argument was?

“I can’t make payment to you this way because i will lose 300$ if the website doesn’t work out.”

I told him that i’m doing the work here, and all he will do is just promote. He says that online social promotion is equally hard (if social promotion is hard for him, think how productive this guy is in his daily life). And i told him that i might start work if he can develop websites himself too (so we work side to side). He stated he can’t work with someone like me. <sarcasm> What a loss! </sarcasm>

Sure, if you are up for a new investment, and have enough free time (which is not good, go start something, work!)

2 – The “I can do it too” client

If you are a freelancing web developer (which often means: software engineering, developing, designing, and SEO with online marketing at the same time), chances are that your client doesn’t know very much (except for the few that are web developers themselves too, in that case, try to never lose them!). If the client had the time, knowledge, or the resources to do what you can do, he would have not been there looking for web developers in the first place. This client will try to pay you as little as possible, and will often act like a specialist, ignoring your “but this can’t be done if you X” and will stick to their own assumptions about your work.

3 – The “I want it and I want it cheap” Client

I am amazed to see on oDesk or on eLance hourly rates of 1$, or 1.50$, the clients dropping the prices almost to nothing, and expecting quality work. Quality work means: skill, research, and experience. And no freelancer that is confident in his skills and provides high quality work will expect anything less than 10$ a hour. This i know personally because the good freelancer already has snippets to reduce time for writing code, takes care of security problems, and overall has much better experience. There is no problem in wanting good enough work, but don’t send me messages if you want very high quality work at a rate like 2$ a hour. A good freelancer makes great efforts in getting the website functional (say, if a the client’s database crashes, he will fix that issue for the client, because he takes client’s websites well being into account). The solution to this is to set a fixed rate (mine is 20$ a hour), and stick to that. Sure, at the beginning, you can charge less, but why continue like that if you are experienced in your domain? Respect yourself and your work!

4 – The Indecisive and Passive Aggressive Client

If you heard something like this from a client before:

- “Hmm, i don’t like that anymore, maybe we should try this other thing. No. Choose Y…PUT IT BACK TO X”

You might ask yourself: “What the hell is wrong with this guy anyways?”, then you have got yourself an Indecisive and Passive Aggressive client. A client like this will lose you tens of hours from the time you could have spent it on working with a client that will explain clearly what he actually wants (i love the clients that send me specifications, UI design mock-ups, details about certain processes such as custom registrations). Don’t lose time with one of these. Go find yourself a client that will treat you and your team a thousand percent better.

5 – The “I will pay you 100 years later” client

Sure, there might be times where you are desperate enough to find a client who will pay 2, or 3 weeks later after you finished the work (oh boy, does the hunger period make a man submissive!), but these are one of the worst ones because they assume you are stupid along giving you a very bad deal. In the following weeks after you finished this project, all you might gain is an extra website on your portofolio. Sad isn’t it? And there is a huge risk of the client not contacting you anymore after you finished his work. If you already did the work for him, what could he gain by giving you the money? You already gave it for free! And if you work at a website like oDesk or Elance, chances are your money will not be refunded because you worked outside the fixed-price or hourly-rate agreements.

It’s nothing short of amazing how some executives can’t get enough of taking on challenges that feel far too much like climbing a mountain. This is just the type of hefty (perhaps even mind boggling) challenge Gary Warren, formerly commercial director at HMV, took on when he accepted the offer to serve as Blockbuster’s new managing director. He doesn’t seem timid about taking on the tasks of turning around a company whose product sales plummeted after online movies and companies like Red Box took off as evidenced by reports generated by retail point-of-sale programs.

Warren will have his hands full revitalizing Blockbuster, working to bring the retailer back to life following its January collapse. Oddly, it’s this type of challenge that can get some senior executives’ juices flowing. That’s not to say busy senior managers take pride in beating a dead horse. In fact, it’s just the opposite. Proof of this might be best revealed when retail executives beef up their data tracking and reporting systems, reaching out to distributors and sellers of mobile POS systems.

After all, when every sale and all revenues count, are depended upon, getting numbers right is critical. Counting inventory and sales by hand or using spreadsheets lends itself to mistakes, despite how well meaning workers and managers might be. This is where systems like NCR Silver could help. In fact benefits of using the systems include having the ability to process actual customer sales in real time as well as having the tool to track and record each sale and remaining inventory, factors that directly impact a retailer’s bottom line.

NCR Silver can process customer sales using large stationary cash registers or mobile devices like an iPad, iPod Touch and even an iPhone. The retail point-of-sale program does this after it is linked to a cash register or after software is downloaded onto checkout systems. So, let’s say a customer comes into a retail store located outside a popular mall at two o’clock in the afternoon on December 23 and purchases four movie videos.

The date and time the customer purchased the movies, as well as the specific movie titles the customer bought, would be tracked in the point-of-sale systems in seconds as the system scans each movie video’s bar code. Not only does the system record individual customer sales, it can also store the details of each sale. The process is automated, simplifying the check-out, sales and inventory management process.

Processing, tracking and storing customer sales isn’t, of course, the first step in turning a business around or taking a start-up from unknown to household name status. Marketing, advertising and public relations are frontrunners, so too is training a talented sales team. However, after these steps have been taken, point-of-sale programs be used to help retailers find their footing, get on track and prepare to move up, enjoying more success.

The hype for web apps, whether done in Ruby on Rails, CodeIgniter,Laravel, Node.JS,Backbone.JS or any other back-end framework, is rising more and more since the start of this year, and freelancers want to profit by this. Someone who already has some experience in one of these frameworks will not find it too difficult to create a web application. Anyway, you still need to come up with a good plan (We are software engineers at the same time, remember?). Today, let me show you the steps to take when designing new web applications. The reason i started this article was that, like the following quote, “Been there, done that”, i had many pitfalls while planning and i don’t want you guys to go through the same problems when designing your web applications.

So here’s a list of things to take care of:

1 – Design the User Interface First

When you start with the outside look of the Website, such as how to have the registration process, ideas will pop in your mind, for example: “I can submit this form using Ajax, and return the success message, then display this error based on the returned message”, which will aid you in developing the back-end. Things like latest posts, single post etc. will make you think of ways to extract these amounts of data from the model. Log-in functionality, you may want to put it in the top, so you’ll want to use Ajax with Sessions. So design the UI first, and whatever pops in your mind, write them down. This will be your specification.

2 – Get into the details

Even the most abstract loving big picture person will want to lay out specific details so he can move out of the picture the trivial problems that may arise during the development time. It feels nice when you have the solution for the specific problems in the back of your mind. You will be able to concentrate on the more important parts of the project, while having the functionality stuff already done written on a piece of paper.

3 – Play Around

After having the details for functionality and user interface already decided, you will want to test the functionality that you thought out following what i wrote in the second phase of this article. Open your editor, write the code snippets, and resolve the errors that might arise in your designs one error at a time. Save these snippets somewhere and move on to the writing part.

4 – Go Nuts

Done! Now start writing your application starting from the business model logic. Write functions for getting specific data from the tables (See our Database Design article for ideas on how to plan out the database structure), and start writing that application! You will notice a flow in the process as you have already solved the few problems that could arise. Move on to the controllers (Never design an application without following procedures such as the Model/View/Controller).

See you around for more information about web design and development!

Information and data is something that is expanding at an incredible rate today. All types of information are stored in a certain directory for the convenience of the people to go through them as and when required. The web is getting packed with various such directories that provide catalogued information or menu to the users for making the task of finding something easy for them.

Different Types of Directories

There are various directories available on the web that you can use to submit your website or business. Some of these sites have the system of paid submission to prevent spam submissions whereas some are free but have strict guidelines for acceptance of the sites. They have strict parameters regarding the age of the site, its PR or the domain authority. Many directories also have moderators that check each site personally before confirming their submission. E.g. if you have a site related to automotive, you can submit your site on a free or paid directory depending upon your choice in the automotive directory of the site. The directory can have further subdirectories too like cars, bikes etc.

One of the most rising directory today is the computers directory. With an increasing number of websites being launched in this niche, the demand of computer directories has indeed grown in the recent days. Therefore, if you have a site related to computers, you should always look out for submitting your site to some computers directory.

Why Submit to Directories?

There are a lot of benefits of submitting your site to a directory. It acts as a backlink for you and if this backlink comes from a reputable directory then it can contribute significantly to your page rank thereby affecting your search results too. Also, all good reputable directories have a loyal group of visitors who visit these sites to know about new and standard websites in the niche they are looking. This way, you can also get good amount of targeted visitors to your site.

Use Coupon Codes and Avail Great Discounts

For submitting your site to paid directories, it is always wise to use coupon codes like the hotvsnot coupons. These coupons can help you have a good amount of discounts on your submission and you can really make a good deal through them. These coupons are basically a set of digits that you can enter during your transaction and avail the discount that is associated with that particular coupon being used. Generally, it is very easy to get discounts up to 20% via the help of these coupons.

Submission to web directories is a very important SEO step for every site today. Apart from increasing the rankings of your site in search engines, it also directs the visitor directly to your site too. So, it is always wise to not leave the opportunity of even submitting your site to good paid directories. Moreover, with the help of coupon codes, you can always expect to get some good deal on your submission. Therefore, why miss out the chance of getting your site the exposure that it needs? Start submitting your site to directories today!

The most important reason for testing your internet speed is to find out if your internet service provider is living up to their claims to confirm you are getting what you pay for. Although it may sound like a science project, testing your internet speed is actually very simple and does not require installing software. You simply visit a website that offers free internet speed testing and in a few clicks you will know your access or ping speed, download speed and upload speed. Some of the fast, easy, free websites that offer this service are Comcast Speed Test, Speedtest.net and Broadband.gov.

Many people who began using the internet in the nineties have already learned the hard way about internet speed. By now many people understand that the faster the internet speed, the better the internet experience will be. Conversely, the slower the internet speed, the more the internet will be like its infancy stage when pictures and songs took a long time to download. While dial-up is still the bare minimum type of connection needed to be online, it’s also a clunky experience. That’s why a majority of internet users have either DSL or cable internet. Since cable uses more bandwidth, internet speed is much faster than DSL.

If you are paying for cable internet you should not have to deal with slow internet speeds. Yet studies have shown that some ISPs provide slower speeds than they advertise, partly due to the fact that they cannot control internet traffic, which inevitably affects speed. That’s why you should test your internet speed to make sure you are getting appropriate service from your ISP.
Within about a minute after taking your speed test, the site will give you the results of your ping speed, download speed and upload speed. The results will be measured in megabytes per second (mbps), except ping, which will be measured in milliseconds (ms). Then compare these results with your ISP’s published marketing claims.

Keep in mind that your upload speed will usually be slower than your download speed. You should remember that speed results can vary depending on the time of day and how congested internet traffic is at that time. Consider that some states have faster internet speeds than others. Rhode Island, New Jersey, New York and other heavily populated Eastern states have faster internet speeds than California, which has faster speeds than most of the United States. The slowest states for internet speed are the sparsely populated states such as Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Oklahoma.
Another factor about internet speed in relation to location is the country where you reside. Some countries such as Japan offer higher speed internet at a lower price than countries with slower internet speeds such as Mexico or Canada.

Make sure you close out of all browsers except the one you use for testing. You should also close out of all software programs that are either running in the foreground or the background. For the most comprehensive testing, such as tracking multiple connections, you may consider opening a free account at SpeedTest.net, which can also test internet speeds for mobile devices.

One of the things an internet speed test will accomplish is let you know the amount of time it takes to download or upload electronic files. It’s good practice to test your internet speed several times at regular intervals to determine average speeds. You can also learn from this research the best times to use the internet for highest speeds. Repeat the tests for different browsers to see which one works best on your computer, whether it’s Firefox, Chrome, Safari or Internet Explorer.

Various factors determine internet speed such as type of internet service, the amount of traffic online, the quality of wireless networks and the distance a computer is to its network hub. Internet speed can also be affected by browsers, hardware, software and malware. Physical location also plays a role in internet speed, especially with DSL, in which the further you are from the ISP, the slower your internet speed will likely be.

There are tricks you can do to your computer to enhance internet speed. One thing that can help is deleting unnecessary temporary internet files. Using wireless networks can be convenient, but plugging a live ethernet cable directly into your computer will always provide a faster, higher quality connection. Once you’ve learned about your internet speed, you might share the data with others and in return ask them to test their ISPs and browsers, which can help you determine the best internet service for your needs.

It has been a year’s time during which you have put in much effort to bring your site up in the search engine result pages. You feel that every effort is working well. However, you are still away from the goal of fetching 3,000 unique visitors per month. Moreover, not all posts are getting enough traffic. If these issues are there, it means that somewhere something is going wrong. Either some essentials are missing or some things are not working properly. Irrespective of the problem, it is necessary to find out the reasons as to why adequate traffic is not reaching your site. Discussed below are some of the possible reasons that are responsible for lack of adequate traffic.

Not Offering What People are Looking for!

When you wish to write articles or blogs, you first find out what people wish to know about. Writing anything without considering what the readers want is like initiating a business without knowing what your customers want. Without knowing what your visitors want, how can you attract them to your site or blog? However, now the question is how would you know what online visitors are looking for? Well, in order to know this, you will have to perform keyword research. Many webmasters and developers know about this but the question to ask is how often this research is performed. After all, it is your lookout to offer content based on keywords that are most searched! While researching for your keywords, just enumerate keywords relevant to your target audience and that are searched over 500 times a month. Once this is done, you need to write posts or articles for every keyword.

Keywords are Not Added to Your Titles, Breadcrumb, and Page URLs

Once you get your relevant keyword list, you will mostly consider including each one in the content body of the corresponding post or article. However, this is not enough for taking the advantage of keywords. You will also have to include the keyword in the title, as that’s the most important part of your post to fetch traffic. Similarly, it makes sense to include that keyword in the page’s URL as well as in the breadcrumb. When that keyword is Google, the search engine can easily find your page by looking for it in the URL and title. Therefore, if you wish to get ranked higher for specific keywords, you must add them in these three locations.

Content is Not in Detail

As a rule of thumb, content that provides every full details of a topic for a keyword is bound to get a better rank. This is because such posts are of high quality, and that Google gives more preference to them. For instance, if you wrote a 300-word article on ‘how to fetch more traffic’ and that there is one more post of 2000 words that shows each aspect in detail with authority, it is obvious that Google will push the latter post forward in the search engine page results. Therefore, keep the target of 2,000 words per post for better results.

Content is Not Sharable

A latest study by Branded3 revealed that the search results are fairly based on the number of Tweets. It was concluded that there exists a direct relation between the rankings by search engine and number of Tweets. Therefore, it is wise to allow people sharing your posts or article on Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest. Such broadcasting also helps in bringing you more traffic from social media sites. Chances are high that your page that receives over 7,000 tweets may appear on the very first search engine result page.

One of the newest kids on the block, Pheed is becoming increasingly popular among creative people across the world. It was initially reported that Pheed is a social networking site that combines the best of everything. It has features of Facebook, behaves like Twitter and can act like MySpace if one chooses to. Consequently, lots of musicians, artists, designers and writers have taken to Pheed and it might as well become the next big thing in the world of SEO. Pheed has everything that makes it important for an SEO maven to pay more attention to it. Some of the reasons are:

Pheed is a new platform

Pheed is popular with the creative types

Pheed is used mostly by youngsters who have spending power

Pheed combines the goodness of Facebook and Twitter

Images, videos, links, text and other media can be shared

Pheed allows paid broadcasting

With all this in mind, it shouldn’t be a surprise if more people start using Pheed as an alternative to Facebook and Twitter. Let us take a look at why Pheed can be a major asset to the profession of SEO:

Pheed gives importance to privacy and data protection

Pheed states that it gives a lot of importance to privacy and users’ data. It declares that what is shared belongs to only the person who shared it and if he or she chooses so, they can even mark it as copyrighted. This means, search engines like Google will give Pheed more importance because of its credibility.

Pheed drives traffic

Thanks to all the links that are shared on Pheed, creative content will get more traffic and more visibility. What is heard on Pheed will tend to be reblogged by others so that it can be viewed across a wider audience.

Pheed is cross-platform compatible

Pheed allows updates to be broadcast on Facebook and Twitter as well. For instance, when content is shared on Pheed, it can automatically be shared on Twitter and Facebook as well. This makes Pheed very versatile and a very stable platform.

Pheed is free to use

Pheed is free to use and one does not have to pay anything to utilize its benefits. It also is a great way to monetize one’s content through subscriptions.

Pheed allows you to charge for subscription

Based on how important you think you are, one can charge people a monthly subscription fee. Only those who pay can view your ‘Pheed’. However this is not mandatory and one can keep one’s Pheed accounts non-premium or non-paid as well.

Pheed is a new platform that an SEO expert must become aware of. Most SEO pros do not know about Pheed yet and now is the time to start using it and learn more about it. It will grow by leaps and bounds in the coming years and may play important roles in the field of SEO. Only when we are prepared for the future can we aim for success and monetization in SEO.

Author Bio: Idania is a social media professional and an SEO expert. She has often written extensively for SEO related matters and is widely respected in the community.

If you are a loyal user of Sony mobile phones, you might like Experia E model. Aside from the great features, it is also considered as one of the affordable models Sony has launched. The cheapest model is Sony Tipo and both models make use of the first generation design themes.

Sony Experia E is a practical choice not only with the price, but also with the great features it offers. Basically, this is designed for people who prefer small units that can be easily slipped into the pocket. Unlike those bulky mobile phones, this model will be loved by many considering the size and weight.

Technical Specifications

Features – Just like many Android phones, Sony Experia E makes use of Android Jelly Bean OS version 4.1. It also uses 1 GHz for CPU, Adreno 200 for the graphics and HTML5 for the browser. For messaging, users can enjoy sending SMS, Push email, IM, regular email and MMS. If you are particular with fashion, you can choose from the different colors available like white, black and pink.

Display – Most users prefer now prefer touch screen, so this model gives 3.5 inch of TFT touch screen with a HVGA resolution of 320×480.

Sound – If you are always on the go, you can enjoy its FM Radio or simply install your favorite songs maximizing the 32GB memory.

Memory – The memory of Experia E is expandable up to 32GB in addition to its internal storage of 4GB and 512 MB RAM.

Data – If you are into browsing, Sony Experia E can offer up to 86kbps and up to 237kbps for its edge. Browsing can done through Wi-Fi, but it can also be used as a Wi-Fi spot.

Camera – Normally, users check this feature first. If you are an amateur in photography, the 3.15MP will do. Additionally, its video quality is VGA@30fps, which is also suitable for first-timers and amateur users.

Disadvantages of Sony Experia E

According to experts, there are some features in Experia E that are considered inferior. Considering its price, it won’t be a surprise to discover features that are substandard. First, the video recording function has no front-facing camera, while the camera does not include a LED flash. Second is the low quality screen. Though Sony already used touch screen technology, it is not a guarantee that it can give a good resolution. Lastly, the chipset has a poor performance.

Based on the features and reviews, Sonly Experia E is a model designed for amateur and first-time users of smartphones. If you are into high end mobile phones, you better stay out of it. Even without using it, you may already get an idea about its capacity just by checking the price.
