Acer laptop under $500 review Acer AC700-1099 Chromebook review

A Chromebook is certainly not a complete laptop but it can help handle a lot of basic computing tasks. This Chromebook made by Acer is no doubt one product that makes a lot of people to be fond of Acer. It has great features for a Chromebook and it is not bad to have. But then the features of any laptop are always in a better position to tell what the computer can and cannot do. But it will be very unfair to judge this Chromebook like you will judge a laptop seeing that it was not created for the same purpose. Laptops are better judged as Laptops, Chromebooks as Chromebooks and Netbooks as Netbooks. But to judge a Chromebook as a laptop would be unfair and will certainly make the Chromebook to have a very poor rating. But then Acer has already stated that this Acer AC700-1099 is a Chromebook, so in reviewing its features it is best to judge it as one. Below are the features of this Acer AC700-1099 Chromebook that can either make it a great buy or a poor buy for you.

Major Specifications

  • Dual – Core Intel Processor
  • 2GB DDR3 Memory
  • 16GB Solid State Drive

The Good

For a Chromebook its major features are okay and its average review rating of 4.5/5.0 is not bad at all. And this rating will really be a good encouragement for anyone that intends to buy this Acer AC700-1099 Chromebook. It has an HDMI output and considering that some laptops don’t have this feature, this is certainly a major plus to this Acer AC700-1099 Chromebook. It comes with a 1.3 megapixel HD webcam (1080 x 1024) which is relatively okay for a Chromebook. It is fast on the web and it has a sleek and nice design. It is an 11 inch HD Widescreen Cine Crystal LED backlit LCD (1366 x 768) resolution and with 16:9 aspect ratio. For a Chromebook its 2GB memory is very okay. It has a battery life averaging about 6 hours and this is another great feature of this Acer AC700-1099 Chromebook which makes it good for long road trips. Its lightweight is also a plus to this Chromebook.

Cons

This Acer AC700-1099 Chromebook has a lot of cons. This is simply because it does not really have what it takes to replace your Windows machine. Too some, its price of around $349.95 may be okay for a Chromebook but others will suggest that it is too costly for its features. This is because with just some extra $70 – $100 you may be able to get a complete Laptop with far better features. It cannot load Windows program, it has no optical drive which means it cannot play CDs or DVDs, it has a relatively poor track pad and it has no CAPS lock button. This for anyone may just be too many good things that it doesn’t have. And that it is a Chromebook may not be an enough excuse and so these are all cons of this Chromebook. That it also runs on only Chrome OS is also not good.

Considering its features it is obvious that this Chromebook cannot replace a laptop computer, but it has some good features that can make it a reasonable buy for light computing.
